about

I had given my 2 months notice at the good paying job at the corporate TV studio and each week I would ask my boss if he would like me to help him find my replacement and train them. I knew the most important thing was to get to the office early and start making capuccinos. Each time, he would tell me I wasn't really quitting. One day, you'll be alone in the desert, he would tell me and I could think of nothing more appealing. The house I had repeatedly poointed at and told anyone who would listen, was 'mine,' was available and I started renting it immediately, painting the walls, getting it ready. On the day I finally left the job for good and made the drive, I stopped at Whitewater and waded into the trickle of a river, made of melted snow. I never have regretted leaving the job in Burbank or the tiny apartment in Echo Park for my desert acres and Lil' Abner cabin set between a dry wash and the mountain in my backyard.
