my partner had told me that her favorite color had changed and now eggplant was her preference. that day there was an earthquake in l.a., centered at that big shopping mall where she was shopping, while jeremy and i had coffee at the farmer's market. i went home to the desert and wrote this song and the next morning two airplanes flew into the towers in new york city. i remembered that we'd been there a few months before, showing joe garcia around new york for his first time. i thought of all the people on their cell phones, walking between those buildings...and another time when fred, robert and i were blazing and those towers seemed like giant slides into outer space. elia did the best version of this song for my birthday one year and now does it a cappella at the end of her piece, "the fifth commandment," where soldiers talk about being in iraq. dana anderson szarowicz - aka digital d - played the siren sound on an arp odsyssey and elia did the dream vocal.
