about

Elia Arce, Joe Garcia and Petra Haden were performing in New York ("Unchanging Evidence of Identity") and I went along. One afternoon, while visiting my old friend Lovey, I invited Joe out to the "Tar Beach" for a smke. He thought it would be a great song title, like "Up On the Roof." When recording this with Fred, I asked him to mae it sound like it was playing on a transistor radio left out in the sun, with battery acid leaking out. This is one of my favorite things ever recorded with Fred.
