about

I was helping my friend, the journalist/alchemist Art Kunkin move some of his 10,000 books on metaphysics, the occult and political history from one strage space to another at the Institute of Mentalphysics, where he resides and where I had been studying the latest in brain research and the most anicent meditation techniques under his guidance, as my partner Elia was doing a 10 day silent retreat with a Vipassana group, on the same propertyy. I know if I bumped into her we would not be able to speak or even look each other in the eye, or risk breaking the silence - the equanimity - she was working so hard at maintaining. Instead, I wrote this little song, partly inspired by Neil Young ("Walk On") and partly by david Bowie, who signed his liner notes on the "Pin-Ups" album, "love on ya!" The losses yet to come were my association with the home and studio of my beloved friend, the late Fred Drake and, more personally, the end of my relationship with Elia, as lovers. I had no idea what to do after that double-loss - but the universe - and an artist/songwriter/philosophy student named Monet - gave me the answer within a couple of months, as I recorded an album by another young songwriter, Kevin Stetz, when it was revealed to me that I would be a father soon. Suddenly, the third act was more promising than even the first two had been. Love on...
